Doom The Dark Ages: 10 quick tricks to crush it ⚔️🔥
Discover our tips for Doom the Dark Ages And master this slower-paced crusade with ease, defeating demons without difficulty. For Doom Eternal veterans, this title offers a new experience that requires unlearning previous tactics to succeed.
If this is your first time facing the forces of Hell, there's a lot to learn: weapons, enemies, and key mechanics for survival. Here are 10 essential tips to improve your performance in Doom the Dark Ages.
Never stop moving 🏃♂️

This basic tip is vital in Doom: The Dark Ages, where the Slayer doesn't have a dash or double jump and his movement is slower than in Doom Eternal. Always keep moving to dodge projectiles and enemy attacks. Take advantage of the jump and shield charge both to move around and to knock down opponents.
Strift and prevent enemies from surrounding you ↔️

¡More help to master Doom The Dark Ages!
Constant movement is essential, but weaving around enemies will give you a strategic advantage. Keep demons in front of you to anticipate attacks and dodge them easily. Avoid being surrounded to prevent attacks from behind, which make it difficult to block or parry blows, leading to avoidable deaths.
Block with your shield more often than you think 🛡️

As enemies become more varied and larger, blocking attacks with your shield becomes an essential skill. Don't limit your shield to just parrying blows or throwing them; use it to quickly advance while protecting yourself. You can even run while blocking, improving your survivability in combat.
Master the parry: key to defeating powerful enemies ⚔️

Parryear green attacks like Hell Surge reflect damage back at the enemy and stun them, creating an opening to attack with powerful weapons like the Super Shotgun or Chainshot. It also helps recharge your melee attacks to maximize damage and gather ammo.
Against large enemies like Cyber-Demons, Vagaries, and Agaddon Hunters, parrying is almost essential for survival. If you struggle with timing, adjust the parry window in the options to make it easier.
Throwing the Shield Saw to stun enemies is super effective 🔥

Use the Shield Saw to immobilize large or agile demons such as Mancubus, Archnotron, Pinky Rider, Revenant, Whiplash, or the invisible Imp Stalker. By stunning them, you avoid attacks and gain time to reposition yourself or attack them safely.
If you're having trouble aiming, hold down L1/LB to slow down time and ensure perfect throws.
Use the right weapon for each enemy 🔫

The Super Shotgun is one of the best weapons, but every demon has its weakness. Switch weapons as the battle demands, and don't use quick weapon-switching techniques like in Doom Eternal, as they don't work the same way here.
Plasma weapons are ideal for overloading shields, the Flail and Shield Saw for breaking through metal armor, while the Pulverizer and Shredder mow down hordes of smaller enemies. The Super Shotgun and Chainshot are deadly against large foes. Check out our complete weapon guide to master each one.
Use the shockwave from the jump to eliminate enemies 📉

When the Slayer falls from heights, the impact creates a shockwave that instantly eliminates weak enemies. Use this tactic to clear areas; although verticality is limited in the environments, jumping from a small hill can be enough to deal massive damage.
In addition to jumping, use the charge and shield throw to easily control crowds.
Check the Automap frequently 🗺️

To complete 100% of the levels and find weapons, codex entries, and life sigils, consult the Automap frequently outside of combat. This map automatically marks nearby secrets, making it easy to explore thoroughly before moving on. Beware of points of no return!
Collect all the gold you can 💰

Gold, in the form of bars and chests, is the primary currency for upgrading weapons and shields in Sentinel Shrines, especially early on. Each chapter has a limited amount of gold, so be sure to collect it all to be ready for the next upgrade.
Later on you'll need Rubies and Spectral Stones for advanced upgrades, but they are rare and difficult to obtain, such as finding all the Spectral Stones in the Nerathul Spiral.
Check out and mark the mission challenges 🎯

Starting in Chapter 4, you have at least two mission challenges per chapter that grant additional rewards, such as extra gold. Don't ignore them or lose sight of them.
When you start a level, open the challenges tab in the dossier, read each challenge, and press X/A to set them. This will give you a visible progress counter to help you complete objectives, such as eliminating specific enemies or locating special map features.
