Micron Releases DDR5-6400 CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs for Intel Core Ultra 200S CPUs.

DDR5-6400 kits up to 32GB capacity with C52 latencies.

Micron has expanded its extensive branded memory portfolio with Crucial DDR5-6400 Clocked Unbuffered DIMM memory kits (CUDIMM) and Clocked SODIMM (CSODIMM) to compete with the best RAM. While the memory kits are targeted at the latest Intel Core Ultra 200S processors (codenamed Arrow Lake), they are compatible with any existing platform that uses DDR5 memory.

CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs incorporate an integrated clock controller (CKD). Without going too deep into the technical side, the clock controller plays an important role: it buffers the base clock signal between the clock controller and the memory controller. memory and memory chips. As a result, signal integrity remains intact and data rate is preserved. It effectively eliminates the integrated memory controller (IMC) from the processor from the equation, allowing CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs to run at their advertised speed regardless of IMC quality.

While other manufacturers of memoirs While they are releasing CUDIMMs up to DDR5-9600, Micron is sticking to the JEDEC baseline, which is DDR5-6400. This isn’t a total surprise, as Micron has been out of the enthusiast market since the company decided to retire the Ballistix branding in 2022. Since then, Micron has been releasing JEDEC-compliant (DDR5-4800) or slightly overclocked (DDR5-6000) memory. It’s unclear whether Micron will offer faster CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs in the future.

Meanwhile, Micron’s CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs only come in the 16GB version. However, the company has already validated memory modules up to 64GB with Arrow Lake, paving the way for up to 256GB on a consumer platform with four DDR5 memory slots. The 64GB CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs won’t be available until the first half of 2025.

Micron sells 16GB CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs as single devices and dual-channel memory kits with two memory modules. Currently, the only kit capacity available is 32GB, which consists of two 16GB CUDIMMs or CSODIMMs. Regardless of form factor and packaging, the memory kits operate at DDR5-6400 with a CAS latency (CL) of 52. Micron did not share the rest of the memory timings.

Micron CUDIMMs and CSODIMMs operate at different speeds depending on the platform. They will conform to the natively supported specifications of the platform. processorFor example, the memory modules run at DDR5-6400 along with a Core Ultra 200S processor because Arrow Lake natively adopts DDR5-6400 memory. On the contrary, when combined with a chip 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh or older, memory modules will be downgraded to DDR5-5600.

On an AMD platform, the default memory modules are DDR5-3200 or DDR5-5600 when connected to a processor Ryzen 9000, as Zen 5 has native support for DDR5-5600 memory. However, Micron warns consumers not to overclock memory modules beyond their JEDEC specifications, rated speeds, or timings, as this will void the warranty.

Micron did not share pricing for the CUDIMM and CSODIMM memory kits in the press release. However, since the embargo was lifted today, the product pages should be online soon and We will update prices once they are available.
