Black Monitor in Windows 11: 7 Tricks to Fix It Now 🎮⚡

There's nothing more frustrating than a monitor that randomly goes black for no apparent reason. If you're a gamer, this can completely ruin your gaming experience on a Windows 11 PC. 🎮😩

However, the random black screen issue is something that can be easily fixed. Below, we share some simple methods to fix the problem of your monitor going black every few seconds. 🛠️✨

Possible Causes of a Monitor Going Black for a Second

There's no specific reason to pinpoint, but the problem usually arises when something interferes with the connection. Here are some possible causes for your monitor to go black for a few seconds.

  • Loose, loose, or damaged cables connecting your monitor to your PC.
  • Outdated or corrupt graphics drivers.
  • Incorrect power options settings.
  • Compatibility and stability issues.
  • Hardware problems with your monitor or PC.

Since we don't know the exact reason for the black screen issue on a Windows PC, we need to follow all the troubleshooting methods that address the monitor, graphics drivers, and system files. Here's what you can do. 💡🤔

1. Closely Examine the Cable Connections

If your monitor keeps going black every few seconds or minutes, it's usually due to loose, improperly tightened, or faulty cable connections.

The first step is to check the cables connecting your monitor to the CPU. Check if the cable is damaged, seated properly in the port, etc. If you're not sure, try using a different cable and monitor and see if it helps. 🔌🔍

2. Update your PC's Graphics Driver

Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers are one of the most common reasons for a black screen. Therefore, it's recommended to update your PC's graphics driver and see if it fixes the problem. Here's how to update your PC's graphics driver.

1. Type "Device Manager" in the Windows 11 search. Then, open the app. Device Manager from the list of best results.

Device Manager

2. When Device Manager opens, expand the Devices section. Display adapters.

Display Adapters

3. Right-click on your current graphics adapter and select Properties. On the Properties tab, click Update driver. Or, right-click on your graphics driver and select Update controller.

Update driver

5. When the “How do you want to search for drivers?” message appears, select 'Search automatically for drivers'.

Automatically search for drivers

Windows 11 will now automatically check for available updates for your graphics driver. If an update is available, it will be downloaded and installed automatically. 🚀💻

3. Roll Back Your Graphics Drivers

If updating the driver doesn't help or causes more problems, it's best to roll back your graphics card driver. Here's how to do it.

1. Type "Device Manager" in the Windows 11 search. Then, open the app. Device Manager from the list of best results.

Device Manager

2. When Device Manager opens, expand the Devices section. Display adapters.

Display adapters

3. Right-click on your current graphics adapter and select Properties.

4. In Properties, click Roll Back Driver (if available).

5. Now, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver rollback process. 🔄😊

4. Change your PC's Power Settings

You can change your Power Plan settings to prevent your screen from going black after a few seconds. Here's what you need to do.

1. Type "Control Panel" in Windows Search. Then, open the Control Panel app from the list of top results.

Control Panel

2. When the Control Panel opens, type Hardware and Sound.

Hardware and Sound

3. On the right side, click on Power Options.

Power Options

4. Select Change plan settings next to your selected Energy Plan.

Change plan settings

5. Then, select Never both for With battery as for Connected in “Turn off the display” and “Put the computer to sleep”.

6. After making the change, click the Save Changes button. 💾👌

5. Perform a Clean Boot

Performing a clean boot will help you resolve the black screen issue by eliminating conflicts with third-party applications. You should perform a clean boot and check if the problem persists.

1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will open the Run dialog box. In the Run dialog box, type msconfig and press Enter.

msconfig

2. In the System Configuration utility, switch to the Settings tab. Services.

Services

3. Next, brand the 'Hide all Microsoft services' option and click on Disable all.

Disable all

4. Next, open Task Manager and switch to the Tasks tab. Start.

Start

5. Right-click on the startup applications that are enabled and select Disable.

Disable

6. Finally, click on Apply in the System Configuration utility and close it.

Now restart your Windows 11 computer. This will boot your PC into a clean state without any third-party apps or services. Now check if the screen still goes black after a second or a minute. 🔄💻

6. Disable Overclocking

Overclocking the GPU or CPU improves system performance. Gamers often overclock their GPU and CPU frequencies to increase their gaming performance.

However, overclocking has its downsides, such as system freezes, crashes, overheating issues, and more.

Your monitor may suddenly go black due to overclocking. Therefore, it's recommended to undo any overclocking and see if that helps. 🙅‍♂️🙌

7. Perform a System Restore

If you still can't fix the black screen problem, it's better to perform a system restoreA system restore will return your device's settings to a previous date when everything was working properly. Here's how to perform a system restore in Windows.

1. Type "Recovery" in the Windows 11 search. Then, open the app. Recovery from the list of best results.

Recovery

2. On the Recovery screen, click Open System Restore.

Open System Restore

3. On the next screen, select Choose a different restore point.

Choose a different restore point

4. Select a Restore point created on a date when your PC was working properly and click on Following.

Following

5. In the confirmation message, click Finish.

Finish

8. Eliminate Power Supply Problems (SMPS)

Problems with the power supply (SMPS) are known to cause these types of problems. If you suspect your power supply is noisy or dusty, you may want to have it checked by a technician. 🔧💡

An SMPS issue can cause a failure to provide power to your graphics card or even your monitor, leading to frequent lag or a black screen for a second.

If nothing else has worked for you, you should rule out hardware issues. Pay special attention to the GPU, power supply, and, of course, the monitor. ⚙️📉

These are some of the best methods to fix the problem of the screen It may go black for a second. I hope the methods we've shared have helped you resolve the issue. If you're still experiencing the issue, we recommend contacting Microsoft Support. 📞💬
