Error 0x8024a203 Windows 🛑 7 easy steps to fix it NOW! ⚡

Several Windows 10 users have reported issues when trying to upgrade to Windows 11. According to these users, error 0x8024a203 appears during the upgrade process.

If you're experiencing the same issue, don't worry! There are a few solutions to fix this problem. 💡

Why do I get Windows Update error 0x8024a203?

There's no specific reason for this error message to appear. However, it's likely triggered by issues such as network outages, conflicts with third-party software, incomplete downloads, or corrupted update files.

In certain cases, corrupted system files or outdated hardware can also cause this error. Either way, if you want to fix it, here's what to do. 🔧

1. Restart your PC

Before trying more advanced methods to fix the error, it is essential to restart your computer.

Restarting your PC will clear third-party application interfaces, background processes, errors, and glitches that may prevent other troubleshooting methods from working properly.

Restart your Windows 10 PC before following the methods below. 🔄

2. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

Windows 10 has a troubleshooter A built-in update troubleshooter that attempts to find and fix various update-related issues. You can try running this troubleshooter and see if it helps. 👍

Windows Update Troubleshooter

  • Press the Windows + I keys to open the Configuration.
  • When the Settings app opens, navigate to Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • In the Troubleshoot menu, click Additional solvers.
  • Find and select Windows Update. Then click Run the solver.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process. Once complete, restart your PC. 🔄

3. Delete Temporary Files

Conflicts with temporary files stored on your PC can also trigger the Windows Update error 0x8024a203. The best way to address this issue is to delete all existing temporary files. Here are the steps to follow.

1. Open the Settings app on your Windows 10 and select System.

Click on the 'System' option

2. In System, go to the tab Storage.

Click on the 'Storage' option

3. On the right, click on the section Temporary Files.

Click on the 'Temporary Files' option

4. Select the Windows Update cleanup option, thumbnails, and click Delete Files.

Select the file types and click the 'Delete Now' button

4. Restart Windows Update Services

Restarting essential Windows Update services has helped many users resolve this error message. You can also try this. 🔄

1. Type "Command Prompt" in the Windows search. Then, right-click it and select Run as administrator.

2. When Command Prompt opens, run these commands one after the other.

  • net stop wuauserv
  • net stop bits
  • net stop dosvc
  • net start wuauserv
  • net start bits
  • net start dosvc

net stop wuauserv

The above commands will stop and restart the Windows Update services. Once done, close Command Prompt and try updating your PC again. 🔄

5. Run SFC and DISM commands

To rule out system file corruption, you also need to run the SFC and DISM commands. Here's how to do it.

1. Open Command Prompt with administrator rights.

2. Next, run this command:

sfc /scannow

sfc /scannow

3. Once the SFC command is executed, execute these commands one after the other.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Enter the command - DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Once you're done, restart your computer. After the restart, check for Windows Updates again. 🔄

6. Download and Install Windows Updates Manually

Another option to avoid Windows 11 update error 0x8024a203 is to download and install the update manually.

However, downloading and installing updates manually can be tricky, and you'll likely need help. 🆘

7. Perform an In-Place Upgrade

If you're still getting the error when trying to upgrade your PC to Windows 11, your only remaining option is to perform an in-place upgrade.

Make sure your PC is compatible with Windows 11 and follow these steps.

ISO file

  • Download the media creation tool from this page.
  • Right-click the Media Creation Tool and select Run as administrator.
  • Select 'Create installation media' and click Next.
  • Select the language, edition, and architecture. Then click Next.
  • On the next screen, select the ISO file and click Next.
  • Wait for the Media Creation Tool to download the Windows 10 ISO files.
  • Once you have the ISO file, right click on it and select Run as administrator.

Follow the on-screen instructions to perform an in-place upgrade. When you start the upgrade wizard, be sure to select the options "Repair this PC" and "Keep personal files, Windows settings, and apps."
