Foldable Phone: 6 Reasons to Choose It in 2025📱✨
As someone who has always been loyal to the iPhone brand, I recently decided to break the mold and switch to another brand. This decision has led me to the realization that I'm ready to take an even bigger step in my search for a new device: I want a foldable phone! 📱✨
1 Exciting Technology and a Secure Future

I'm convinced that foldable phones can give me the tech fix and futuristic feel I so desperately need, and given their relative youth, they're sure to get more of the latest innovations in the coming years. If Apple were to join the foldable wave, I might consider staying true to my roots, but there's no sign of that happening anytime soon.
Perhaps I should take the plunge and look into tri-folding phones, like the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate. However, since this latest-generation device is still a relatively new innovation, it might be something I'll consider if I like what the standard foldable offers.
2 Improved User Experience
One of the main appeals of foldable phones is their ability to offer a better overall viewing experience. As someone who uses my phone daily for both work and pleasure, I'm excited about the prospect of watching my favorite movies and using Microsoft's mobile apps. Word and Microsoft Excel on a larger screen. Plus, using split-screen apps and multi-window views on my phone would bring a host of benefits I take for granted on my desktop computer.
3 They are portable
The dilemma between screen size and portability has always been something that phone companies have had to grapple with. On the one hand, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (6.8 inches) and Apple's iPhone 16 Pro Max (6.9 inches) offer improved usability thanks to their larger displays. In fact, given the option, they'd be even larger. But of course, this comes with drawbacks, such as their ability to fit comfortably in your hand or pocket. 🤔
Foldable phones, on the other hand, offer more usable space while maintaining their portability. Yes, book-style foldable phones may be a bit thicker than a standard mobile phone, but they offer a practical solution to the conflict between screen size and portability, and companies like Google are working on making them thinner. I'm considering going for a flip-style foldable, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, which is essentially half the height of a regular phone when folded, making it easier to carry in your pocket than a conventional smartphone.
4 Tablets Are Too Big

5 They Are More Affordable Than I Thought
One thing that has always kept me away from the world of foldable phones is their perceived price. After all, the technology and materials needed to enable folding while ensuring durability surely mean foldable phones will be at the higher end of the mobile price spectrum. Plus, anything at the forefront of innovation generally commands more money. 💸
However, my colleague Bertel has convinced me otherwise. Shortly after their release, phones can drop in price rapidly, are rarely sold at their full retail price, and—as Bertel explains—“even Samsung’s most premium phones are often discounted.” Aside from Samsung, the key is to look at non-premium brands. For example, the Motorola Razr and the OnePlus Open have been cheaper alternatives to the Galaxy devices, Pixel and Google foldables in recent years, and their lower price hasn't meant they're inferior in any way.
As someone who often pays a premium price for iPhones anyway, I know there are foldable phones out there that are cheaper than what I'm used to paying. 🤑
6 Folding Ones Are Elegant
I'm not usually one for attention, but it's hard to deny that foldable phones are incredibly cool. There's something very James Bond-esque about taking a device out of your pocket, unfolding it, typing on its enormous screen, and then folding it back up and putting it away, all while smoking a Cuban cigar. Maybe I'm getting carried away with 90s flip phone nostalgia, but that's fine by me! 😎
Clearly, there are some drawbacks I should consider before making my purchase. I might label myself a careless phone owner, but the days of worrying about accidentally dropping my iPhone in water are over. Foldable phones, on the other hand, aren't as resistant to liquid and dust damage, so I'll have to handle my device with much more care (and be prepared to spend if I have a mishap).
Staying on the topic of durability, it's inevitable that if you repeatedly bend and unbend plastic or glass, it's likely to eventually break. Similarly, other moving parts, like complex hinges, are always more prone to wear and tear over time. Of course, tech companies are working tirelessly to increase the lifespan of these foldable phones, but it's definitely a factor I need to consider when thinking about how many years I'll get out of my new phone. 🔧
