The good news is that there are multiple alternatives you can implement yourself to optimize your battery without spending money. Below, we share some Useful tips to improve the lifespan and performance of your mobile phone. 💡👇

Effective tricks to extend the battery life of your old Android

  • Disable the always-on display feature: While it's useful for viewing notifications, the time, or the date without touching your phone, it can consume between 1% and 2% of battery life per hour. If your device is older, this consumption can significantly affect its battery life. To disable this option, go to Settings > Lock screen and disables the function called Always-on display either Always On Display.
  • Activate the adaptive battery function: It's a smart tool that analyzes your daily usage and automatically limits energy consumption. It learns which apps you use most frequently and prioritizes them, while restricting the consumption of those you use occasionally. To activate it, go to Settings > Battery and select Adaptive battery.

  • Activate standard battery saving: This option is designed to minimize power consumption when your phone is near low charge levels. When activated, it automatically limits secondary functions such as app synchronization, background execution, or even processor speed. Activate it easily by going to Settings > Battery and selecting Battery saving.
  • Switch to dark modeIf your device has an OLED or AMOLED display, enabling dark mode can mean considerable power savings. This will not only give you more battery life, but will also protect your eyesight in low-light conditions—ideal for older displays! Head to Settings > Display, and select Dark theme either Dark mode.

  • Reduce screen brightness and timeout: Manually adjusting brightness and decreasing the time it takes for the screen to turn off is one of the most effective ways to save battery life. Go to Settings > Display and adjust the brightness to the lowest level that is comfortable for your eyes. 🌞
  • Delete unnecessary accounts: Every account you have set up, whether it's email, social media, or cloud services, often consumes battery and data. It's a good idea to delete accounts you no longer use. Go to Settings > Passwords, passcodes & accounts, select the accounts you don't need and tap Delete account. ✂️
  • Turn off keyboard sounds and vibrations: While haptic and audible feedback can be nice, it consumes a lot of power, especially if you type frequently. To disable it, go to Settings > System > Language & input, choose your keyboard (usually Gboard) and in its settings disable it Sound and Vibration when pressing keys. 🔕

  • Control and limit unnecessary notifications: Apps that constantly send notifications keep your device running in the background, consuming power for no reason. Go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications and disable non-priority apps. 🚫
  • Disable the “Hey Google” feature: Voice detection of the Google Assistant keeps the microphone active, which continuously drains battery, especially if you're not using it. To disable it, open the app Google, tap your profile picture, go to Settings > Google Assistant > Voice Match, and deactivates Hey Google. 🎤
You'll soon be able to use 'Hey Google' to summon the Google Assistant on your Android phone.
  • Reduces the screen refresh rate: A high refresh rate (90Hz or 120Hz) improves scrolling and animations, but also increases battery consumption. If your device allows it, go to Settings > Display > Refresh rate and set it to the standard frequency (usually 60 Hz). 📊
  • Turn off wireless connections when not in useWi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS are among the components that consume the most battery in the background. Manually turn them off from the notification bar by sliding it down when you don't need them. 🔌
  • Activate extreme battery saving mode: When your battery is very low and you need your phone to stay on longer, activate this mode. This limits features even more than standard battery saving, keeping only the essentials. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery saver and activate it.
