Wi-Fi connected but no internet: 10s trick ⚡

PC users who rely on Wi-Fi for internet access often face several issues. One of the most frustrating is when the Wi-Fi network in Windows displays "Connected, Secure," but you can't browse the internet.

Many Windows users have shared their concerns about this issue on Reddit. If you're experiencing the same problem, here's what it means and how to fix it.

Why does WiFi show “Connected, Secure” but no internet access?

When your Wi-Fi says "Connected and Secure," it means your device is connected to the Wi-Fi router, but there's an obstacle preventing you from accessing the internet.

The causes can be varied: a faulty Wi-Fi adapter, outdated or corrupted Wi-Fi card drivers, internet service issues, and more. Below, we show you effective solutions to restore your connection.

1. Restart your PC and Wi-Fi router 🔄

The first step in almost any technical solution is to restart your devices. Restarting both your computer and router can eliminate conflicts with third-party applications, temporary errors, or system crashes.

Solo haz clic en el botón de inicio de Windows y elige “Reiniciar” para ambos dispositivos. Este simple paso resuelve muchos problemas de conexión.

2. Use the Windows Network Troubleshooter 🛠️

Windows includes an automatic tool to diagnose and repair network issues. Follow these steps to run it:

1. Click on the Windows search engine and type Troubleshooting.

2. Select Troubleshooting Settings of the results.

Setting up the Network Troubleshooter in Windows

3. On the troubleshooting screen, click Other problem solvers.

Screen with other troubleshooters

4. Search Network and Internet and press the button Execute next to this option.

Run Network Troubleshooter

Follow the on-screen instructions and apply the recommendations suggested by the tool to repair the connection.

3. Restart your WiFi network adapter ⚙️

If the troubleshooter doesn't resolve the issue, try resetting your Wi-Fi adapter by following these steps:

1. Click the Windows Start button and open Configuration.

2. Go to the tab Network and Internet.

Network & Internet tab.3. On the right side, scroll down and select Advanced Network Settings.

4. Press the button Deactivate next to the WiFi adapter.

5. Then, turn it back on by clicking on Enable.

4. Update your network card drivers 🖥️

To ensure a stable connection, Update your WiFi card drivers from Device Manager in Windows 10/11.

1. Write Device Manager in the Windows search engine and open it.

2. Expand the section Network adapters.

3. Right click on your WiFi adapter and select Update driver.

4. Select Automatically search for drivers for Windows to download the latest version.

5. Reset DNS to improve your connection 🌐

Many users have resolved their Wi-Fi connection issues by resetting their DNS cache. Do this as follows:

  1. Writes CMD In the Windows search box, right-click on the command prompt and select Run as administrator.
  2. Run these lines one by one, pressing Enter after each command:
ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew netsh winsock reset

Once finished, close the window and check if you have internet access.

6. Update the WiFi driver directly from the official website 🔍

To avoid conflicts, download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's official website. For example, if you're using a TP-Link WiFi card, go to their official website to get the most up-to-date software.

You can also use third-party programs to automatically update your drivers to the latest and most compatible version.

7. Reset network settings in Windows ⚙️

Resetting your network settings can clear up persistent errors, although it will delete your saved networks, VPN, and proxy settings. Here's how to do it:

1. Open the app Configuration and go to Network and Internet.

2. Click on Advanced Network Settings.

3. Press Reset network.

Reset network settings

4. Click on Reset now and confirm in the pop-up window.

Confirm reset network

Confirmation to restore the network

8. Disable VPN or proxy apps 🚫

VPNs or proxy apps sometimes block or slow down your internet connection. Temporarily disable them, along with any third-party firewalls, to rule out them as the cause of the problem and try again.

9. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) 📞

If all else fails, call your internet provider. There may be server-side issues or configurations that only they can correct.

Your ISP will guide you to check router settings or report technical issues affecting your connection.

These tips will help you fix the "Wi-Fi connected and secure, but no internet access" error. Need more help? Leave your questions in the comments and we'll be happy to help. Don't forget to share this guide with anyone who needs it! 📡💻
