🔥10 Atomfall Tips: Escape Quarantine Easily!🚨
Our top Atomfall tips are key if you want to have a chance of surviving the quarantine zone and escaping at the end of the game. Atomfall combines mechanics of RPG With light survival elements, meaning there's a lot to learn and understand if you want to unravel the mystery. The ultimate goal is to locate The Exchange, understand what Oberon is, and break out of the walls, but to do so, you'll have to deal with outlaws, the Protocol, ferals, henchmen, and more.
Here are 10 of our best tips and tricks for Atomfall that you should keep in mind before diving into this alternative future of the Lake District region in England.
1. Get a metal detector as soon as possible to find buried hiding places.
There are three essential tools at your disposal: the Atomfall Signal Redirector, the Flashlight, and the Metal Detector. We recommend purchasing the latter as soon as possible, as there are many Buried caches throughout the quarantine zone. When you have the Metal Detector in your inventory, which you can get from Trader Reg in the Slate Mine or find near a pond in southeast Slatten Dale, it will start beeping and guide you to loot whenever you are near one.
2. Keep your eyes open for traps when exploring seemingly abandoned buildings
The quarantine zone outside Wyndham is a lawless place, with outlaws roaming the cobblestone roads and merchants taking refuge in ruins and run-down farmhouses. As a result, there are many makeshift traps, so if you decide to explore in places where you think people might be, pay close attention! ⚠️
You'll need to wait until you have one of the necessary Atomfall skills, but once you do, you'll be able to disable traps and loot their resources. Until then, just stay away from traps like tripwires on the ground, or you might detonate a grenade or end up with a stake in your face. 😱
3. Kick enemies in combat to stun them and give yourself a breather
In combat, you'll generally use your melee weapons against Ferals and Henchmen, or your ranged weapons against Outlaws and Protocol if you choose to engage them, but for those enemies that get too close, don't forget the kick! You have legs, so a quick tap of L1/LB will allow you to push enemies with your foot and give you time to aim with your weapon or reload. 👢
4. Use Pneumatic Dispensing Tubes as an extension of your inventory
Unfortunately, inventory space in Atomfall is limited. There's no way to increase your inventory size, so you can only carry four large weapons, such as shotguns and rifles, along with 12 remaining slots for consumables and small arms. However, you'll find Pneumatic Dispatch Tubes scattered throughout Atomfall, each of which has 100 slots for item storage. 📦
If you pick up anything you don't think you'll need right away, such as weapons you're saving for upgrades, atomic batteries, or anything you looted just for trading, store it in the Pneumatic Dispatch Tube. They're usually found in constructed areas like bunkers and The Exchange, which are also where you're likely to encounter the most resistance.
5. An increase in heart rate means you make more noise and are less accurate.
While the survival mechanics in Atomfall are fairly light, so you don't need to worry about food and water, you do need to keep an eye on your heart rate. Simply put, the more demanding the activity, the higher your heart rate will be. So if you run, jump, and climb a lot, your heart rate will increase. This is indicated by a dark effect around the edges of the screen, as if your vision is blurring. 😰
The consequences of this are that you'll become louder, making stealth much more difficult, and your aim will be less accurate. You can consume tea to lower your heart rate, or simply slow down your playstyle, and your heart rate will slowly return to normal.
6. Use stealth as much as possible, especially when you are close to minions
Atomfall doesn't have any forced stealth sections, but we recommend moving quietly to take out as many enemies as possible before being spotted and needing to switch to a more aggressive approach. This is easier said than done in the early stages of the game, but once you acquire the two abilities that make your footsteps and melee kills quieter, you'll be able to move across the map without any problems, as long as you avoid enemy lines of sight.
However, when you finally get to an area with minions (such as the Medical section in The Exchange), which are tougher versions of ferals, you will need to be extremely Cautious. Don't fire unless you're absolutely sure there are no other minions nearby, because facing multiple high-damage, high-defense enemies is a quick path to death. 💀
7. Crafting resources and materials do not take up inventory space
While inventory space is limited, as explained above, that only covers weapons and consumables. Resources and crafting materials simply have a limit on the amount you can carry at any one time, and this can be increased with a skill. So be sure to collect as much scrap metal, rope, cloth, water, poison, etc., as possible, and only craft new items when necessary to save inventory space. 🛠️
An additional component of this is to keep an eye out for any purple plants in the world, as these are herbs. They blend in well with the environment and aren't obvious to interact with, so don't miss too many in your first few hours like we did. 🍃
8. Think about the reason behind some clues, as you may be left out of others
Atomfall is both an investigation and a survival game, which means you'll be doing a lot of investigative work. Many of your clues will center on people who were no longer with us before you intervened, but there are also several people who are still alive and have reasons to want what they want. 🤔
This is especially true when you arrive at Wyndham, so we recommend reading every note and clue carefully before making a decision. If you act against someone's wishes or betray them, you may be left without options and clues in the future. 🚪
9. Watch your step at Wyndham, as the guards get nervous if they see you suspicious.
Thanks to Captain Sims, you can freely roam Wyndham, much to the displeasure of the other townspeople. However, the soldiers and guards don't trust you that much, so they'll always be watching your movements. If you do anything suspicious, like trespassing on someone else's property or staying too close to one of them, they may become alarmed, and you could find yourself in a combat situation... which is the last thing you want in the most populated place in the game. 😬
10. Find and destroy nests to stop the waves of rats that attack you.
Being attacked by swarms of pests is one of the most frustrating mechanics in Atomfall, from bats and birds to rats and fish. Rats are especially annoying because they seem to be infinite, but in reality, you just need to find the nearest nest and destroy it to stop them from spawning. Kick rats by looking down and pressing L1/LB, then, as soon as you have some space, find and destroy the nest in the same way. Note that there can be more than one nest, but once they're all destroyed, the rats should eventually disappear. 🐀
