The fastest way to kill unresponsive apps in Windows 11

From time to time on the PC, I have no choice but to close an unresponsive application. Usually closing the application works, but sometimes a frozen application will not respond when clicking the close button. In such cases, I usually force the application to close by activating the task manager. There are a few ways to do this, but it still takes a bit of time to open the task manager, search for the processes offenders and then shut them down. It turns out there is a much faster way to shut down applications that are not responding in Windows 11.

The fastest way to force close apps in Windows 11

The End Task button in the context menu for a taskbar icon in Windows 11.

I discovered this tip in Reddit And it's as simple as enabling a checkbox in your settings. First, open the Start menu in Windows 11 and click the gear icon in the bottom right corner. This will open the Settings app. Windows 11. Now, go to System > For Developers which is the ninth option in System Settings. On the For Developers page, enable End task.

Once this is done, you can right click on any icon. application on the taskbar and select End task to force their exit. That's it! As a reminder, you should not use this option unless you are forced to do so. If a application If it responds, using the usual close button (the X in the top right corner or the built-in exit function in your app) should work fine and is less likely to present problems. Force closing should be used as a last resort, if you want to avoid worrying about data loss.

Task Manager in Windows 11

There are some alternative ways to open Task Manager and force close it. applications in Windows 11. The easiest method is to press Ctrl-Shift-Esc in your keyboard, which directly opens the Task Manager. Go to the tab Processes, select the frozen application and click End task to force quit. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl-Alt-Del, select Task Manager and follow the same steps. You can even open the start menu and use the search bar to search for Task Manager.
